The teacher writes a question on the board.
The teacher hands a piece of chalk to each student (Or uses some form of appropriate medium that allows students to draw lines between ideas on the board)
Students respond to the original question or to other people’s comments or questions and draw a line to connect the response.
Allow there to be long silences or pauses between responses.
After the designated time, the teacher can make connections between comments or expand on questions that arose.
