Get to Know Your Students (Week 1)

Purpose

To establish trust between the teacher and students and amongst students through a variety of relationship-building activities.

Outcome

Teachers build positive relationships with students in the first weeks of school, setting the tone and conditions for positive learning experiences for the year ahead and building the connections necessary for success.

Action Steps

  • Use “Best Way for Me to Learn” index cards.
  • Students write letters describing their academic strengths/weaknesses as if they are their own parents writing the letters.
  • Meet with parents to discuss students’ strengths, needs, etc. Create a list of important background, demographics, skills, interests, etc. for each student.
