Culturally Supportive Counteractivities

Purpose

To counter the perception that some minority students have that taking AP classes equates to “acting white.”

Outcome

Students will hear positive stories about AP classes from representative role models (current and past AP students, teachers, coordinators, and guidance counselors from similar cultural and racial backgrounds as themselves.)

Action Steps

Ensure that photos of former AP students represent the cultures and backgrounds of the potential students and their communities.

Have former and current AP students from diverse backgrounds involved in recruitment efforts.
