Elicit Student Feedback When Trying Something New

To incorporate students’ voice and choice by making two-way feedback a regular part of the classroom.

Students will feel a sense of belonging, community, and collective responsibility if they see their feedback reflected in their classroom experiences.

• When planning something new, decide what you might like feedback on, how you’d like to receive feedback, and what feedback will mean in the subsequent planning process.
• Communicate the steps, purpose, and model for providing feedback to students.
• Once the feedback is collected, implement or make a plan for saving the feedback until it is time to implement it next.

Be selective and realistic when asking for feedback. Genuinely ask for feedback on things that are works in progress so students see their input in action.

Consider highlighting for students places where their feedback has been applied in future lessons.
