Questions Without Answers

Purpose

To provide opportunities for students to practice multiple choice exams using terminology common to the exam.

Outcome

On exam day, students will be surprised by fewer subject specific terms and thusly be better prepared to succeed.

Action Steps

  • Find or create a multiple choice section of the AP exam.
  • Eliminate the letter choices for answers, leave the language of the question in place.
  • The first few times, provide a word bank related to the terms used on test questions (analyzes, juxtaposes, identifies, etc.).
  • After that, the students should become familiar with those words and how to use them.
  • Students work in pairs or small groups to annotate and discuss the passage. They should discuss the questions and work together to answer them.
  • When they are finished, they are given the questions again with the answer choices, but this time they work independently.
