Purpose

To encourage students to engage with new content, deepen their understanding of complex topics, and express their learning by exploring topics, images, texts and other students’ work.

Outcome

Students will engage in a higher level thinking through close observation, analysis, and academic conversation.

Action Steps

  • Select items to be shared.
  • Display items across the classroom.
  • Students explore items either individually or with a partner. Students can take notes, use a graphic organizer to capture their thoughts, or use post-it notes to respond to the items displayed.
  • Debrief the gallery walk so that students can discuss the topics, share their learnings, and answer questions.
