Student Sit-in

Purpose

To allow 9th and 10th grade students to gain insight into the daily structure and expectations of an AP class.

Outcome

Students develop a sense of connection to AP classes by seeing what it’s like for themselves.

Action Steps

  • Decide which AP teachers can support multiple students sitting in on their class.
  • Confer with the sending and receiving teachers to determine the best time to conduct the sit in.
  • Choose students to participate and provide an overview of what the sit in is about and why they should participate.
  • Bring the students to the AP class. Debrief with the students upon completion.

Addendum

Note: The debrief from a class observation will play a big role in how students digest the experience (and whether or not the key drivers’ cited are addressed.)
