To help students see their community as a place of significance, a place of positive change, and a place where their voices are heard. Talking Circles can be used as a platform for discussion of academic topics that are particularly challenging for students.
To build a classroom culture in which students are encouraged to ask questions that stimulate thinking and promote learning, and where students feel safe and supported to ask questions.
To encourage students to engage with new content, deepen their understanding of complex topics, and express their learning by exploring topics, images, texts and other students’ work.
To emphasize the importance of public speaking and provide regular opportunities for students to talk about their ideas as part of the learning process in a variety of contexts.
