MIE district partners named to nationwide AP District Honor Roll
BOSTON, Dec. 19, 2017 — Mass Insight Education, a nonprofit dedicated to
supporting the expansion of Advanced Placement STEM and English classes in
Massachusetts high schools, saw two of its school district partners chosen for the
Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. The Grafton and Swansea school districts
received the recognition from the College Board last week. AP courses offer college level classes to students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.
The districts’ high schools participate in MIE’s AP STEM and English Core
Partnership Program. Grafton High School and Joseph Case High School, in Swansea,
were selected for the honor roll, which recognizes school districts nationwide
committed to increasing access to AP for underrepresented students while
simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning AP
Exam scores of 3 or higher.
In the two years since joining the AP Core program, Joseph Case has seen 130% increase in qualifying scores from the year before beginning a partnership with MIE. Grafton High School saw an almost 30% increase in qualifying scores this past school year, the first year of their AP Core partnership with MIE.
“Congratulations to our partner schools in Grafton and Swansea for helping to
propel their districts onto the College Board AP District Honor Roll. They are both
wonderful examples of high schools that are committed to expanding the availability
of AP courses among prepared and motivated students of all backgrounds, and we
are proud to be partners in their efforts,” said Susan F. Lusi, president and CEO of
MIE.
MIE is partnering with 78 high schools across Massachusetts with both their 3-year
Core program and subsequent Sustainment program to support the expansion of AP
STEM and English classes, while increasing the enrollment and qualifying scores of
underserved students. The program is funded by a mix of public and private funds.
