Mass Insight Education & Research honors Sen. Michael Moore for AP leadership
BOSTON – April 17 – Mass Insight Education & Research (Mi), a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to improving public school performance and closing the achievement gap, honored Senator Michael Moore (D-Millbury) with the Mass Insight Education & Research Chairman’s Award at the organization’s annual Partners In Excellence awards event held April 12 at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton, MA.
Senator Moore has shown a steadfast commitment to the AP (Advanced Placement)
STEM and English Program, which provides college-level coursework and support at
underserved districts throughout Massachusetts, Susan F. Lusi, CEO of Mass Insight,
said. The program, administered by Mi, reaches 10,000 high school students and
receives critical funding through the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education.
“This year Massachusetts was again the top state in the country for AP success, and it’s leaders like Senator Moore who see the value of creating educational opportunities for all who are helping to close the achievement gap,” said Richard Taggart, Chairman of the Board at Mi.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Senator Moore, who
serves as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education. “In our competitive economy, a college degree has become a necessity and Advanced Placement opportunities are critical to promoting ways to make higher education more affordable and accessible.”
In addition to Senator Moore’s award, the Partners in Excellence Awards Ceremony honors high school teachers from across Massachusetts for their exceptional dedication to helping underserved students succeed in rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) STEM and English classes, putting them on the path to college and career success. Twenty-nine outstanding teachers were honored during the event for their work in supporting student success in rigorous AP science, math, and English classes. Mi partners with over 75 Massachusetts high schools helping 10,000 students get an early start to college success.
